PIP DAYS volunteers from our community worked at five Duncanville homes. In all, there were 103 volunteers doing the various things it takes to have successful Property Improvement Program Days in our city. This week, I am sharing with you pictures and the words of thanks from one of the property owners whose name is Carmen.
Carmen is a widow….her husband died five years ago. Carmen has a job, but doesn’t make enough money to take care of needed repairs on her home. In her grief and sorrow, she had lost hope and the desire to do even the mundane things we all have to do to keep our property in shape.
During PIP Days, volunteers from The Knight’s Hands of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, First United Methohdist Church, Trinity United Methodist Church and First Christian Church did things such as fix a hole in the roof, put up a new storm door, cleaned up the back yard (which is an acre), cut down trees and brush, rebuild a fence and several other things.
Carmen’s words of thanks are as follows: “I cannot thank you enough for everything that was done for me….for all the blessings you have given to me. Everything has been so sad around here since my husband died…you have lifted my spirit so much..it feels like a happy home again. It has been a hard 5 years, but I believe God wants me to have peace and say it’s ok to go forward. He has sustained me…He wants me to be happy….so I am ready too move forward and honor Him for all He has given to me”.
