“His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!” ~ Matthew 25: 23
Let’s consider why it is that we say, yes, when we are asked to serve in a ministry of the church, asked to help a neighbor who is in need, or asked to donate to a worthy cause. Why do we preserve natural wonders and strive to protect the environment.
If we are good stewards of the Time, Talents and Treasures that God has entrusted with us, we say yes and do these things because of the greater good that might follow. We say yes and do these things because of the good feelings these things will engender.
Recipients are blessed with good feelings. We are blessed with good feelings, and God is likewise blessed. God is blessed with pride, happy that we have understood His Son’s teachings, happy that we are loving our neighbors as ourselves and maintaining His garden. God is happy too because we are investing in His Kingdom.
Jesus, in His Parable of the Talents, did not say that the master would give his good and faithful servant a material reward, a commission, a token of gratitude, or even a vacation from toil. He offered to give him greater responsibilities, opportunities to further please, and He invited the servant to share his master’s happiness.
No, stewardship is not about expecting rewards in kind or multiples. It’s not about material gain or a promise of prosperity. It’s about helping to make the world a better, healthier, happier place and growing in our relationship with God.
Come, be good stewards and share our Master’s happiness.
Kids 4 Christ
We will meet Sunday from 3-4:30 to continue learning about prayers. This week we are using the Heart Eyes Emoji to learn about giving thanks to God for our family and those who love us by studying Genesis 45:1-15. There will, of course be HUGE games! Bring a friend and share the joy!
Youth This Week
Will meet Sunday from 5-7 beginning in 414 with a White Elephant Meal Exchange followed by a discussion about Mark 4:35-41 and being Stressed Out. What’s a White Elephant Meal Exchange? Generous members of our congregation are packing sack meals for us and we are exchanging them like Christmas gifts! Bring a friend and come for some wild fun, fellowship and inspiration!
The youth are having a lock in on Saturday, October 12. We have invited the youth from First Christian to join us. Friends are welcome and encouraged but they MUST pre-register and have a signed permission slip so that we are sure we have enough transportation. The cost is whatever money you think you will need for dinner at Whataburger. Our actual start time is yet to be determined but it will likely be around 5p.m. We will all attend Sunday School and worship together on October 13.
