United Methodist Women
The United Methodist Women from FUMCD welcomed UMW National Board representative, Cindy Rives and her husband Chuck, who spoke about their 2-day immersion experiences with Courts & Ports to the southern border of Texas. On their trips (they have been on 3), they observed proceedings in federal criminal court and observed immigration attorneys working with shackled detainees who await their fate. They also spoke with policy experts working on the border and spent time with individuals who have pending asylum cases. They even went into Mexico and spoke with asylum seekers camped out hoping to be allowed to cross into Texas. We each gained insight into this program supported by Texas Impact. If you are interested in knowing more about the Courts & Ports trip, or might like to participate please contact Natalie Garry (214-274-3116).
Our UMW encourages you to read Response magazine Sept/Oct 2019 issue (p. 37) regarding the UMW demands to end child detention and family separation at the US border and how YOU can make a difference.
