Beyond Death: What Jesus Revealed About Eternal Life by Flora Slosson Wuellner (236 Wue)
General Conference begins next week and runs from May 10-20. General Conference is the main legislative body of The United Methodist Church, which gathers every 4 years. This year General Conference will be in Portland, Oregon. Each annual conference has volunteered to participate in a prayer vigil for General Conference and the delegates who will be deliberating over many very important pieces of legislation. Our conference has been assigned May 6th, which is before General Conference itself begins, but after the Bishops and many delegates have already started having preliminary meetings in Portland. Our church has signed up for 2-2:30pm, this Friday, May 6th. Pastor Alex will be in our Sanctuary at this time to lead a prayer vigil for General Conference. Pastor Alex will also remain after the vigil in case anyone is curious to learn more about General Conference or discuss any of the issues that will be prevalent during this year’s conference. Alex will also have information available for anyone who wants to learn how to watch General Conference online. Any and all are invited to join this Friday at 2pm!
The children will be putting on a musical play in Aldersgate on Saturday, May 14 at 7pm called Esther, which is based off the Old Testament story of the brave Jewish girl who became a Persian queen and helped to save her people from being killed. Esther will be played by Heather Mehl, King Ahasuerus will be played by Frankie Alegria, Mordecai, Esther’s uncle, will be played by Liliana Martinez and Haman, the King’s advisor, will be played by Brea Knight. These are just a few of the roles: many more members of the Alleluia Singers, Cherub Choir, and Youth Choir are coming together and participating in this play.
PIP Days 2016
God smiled on us for the first two work days of PIP DAYS 2016! He delayed the predicted rains for Duncanville so that 50 volunteers could work Friday and Saturday, April 29th and 30th. These 50 volunteers included adults and youth from our church, 5 members of the Duncanville police force, 3 members of the city’s Neighborhood Vitality Commission, the city manager’s wife, and the assistant city manager. Other people connected with the city came by to check on us and see progress being made! Phil Mehl, our Construction Supervisor, has done an awesome job of organizing and obtaining supplies, tools, and having everything needed for success! Republic Services furnished dumpsters, portable restrooms, 36 pairs of heavy work gloves, 4 long handled shovels, and 2 cases of water. Subway of Duncanville furnished Friday’s meal and Julie Bair and ladies of our church took care of us Saturday! The yard at 415 Longworth is complete and the house at 534 Golden Meadow, though not finished yet, looks like a different house. Next week end we will finish that job! See more pictures on the back page.

Clothes Drive A Success
The mission committee would like to thank the congregation for their overwhelming support for our clothes drive. We filled Weymond Dunn’s truck with men’s clothing for “One Man’s Treasure,” a prison ministry that works with recently released men to help redirect their lives through networking and employment.
Thanks also to Weymond for his help in transferring the collection to their location.

THINKING OF JOINING THE CHURCH?

FMS Students are curious learners!
The kindergarten class conducted an experiment with celery during their unit on plants. They learned the parts of the plant and watched colored water be absorbed through the stems and leaves via capillary action. Our teachers use many hands on activities like this one to make abstract ideas concrete in the minds of our students.
We are currently enrolling for Summer Fun (ages 1 – exiting 5th grade) and the 2016-2017 school year (ages 1 – Kindergarten). Enrollment information can be found here. Thank you for telling families with young children about our GREAT school!
