United Methodist Women Yearbook Dedication – Joyce Hutson
This gentile lady was born in Oklahoma but soon became a Texan at the age of five.
She graduated from Oak Cliff’s Sunset High School and went on to SMU. Joyce has been married to Don Hutson for 58 years and they have 3 children, 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren whom they adore.
Joyce taught school at Central Elementary and enjoys talking about her experiences as a teacher.
She is a lifelong Methodist and has held many offices in United Methodist Women.
She is a charter member of Methodist Charlton Medical Center Auxiliary, organizing in 2010 an has been on the board of Methodist Dallas Medical Center Auxiliary for many years.
Joyce and Don have such a love for our country that is apparent just after a few minutes of conversation.
We take great pride in presenting Joyce with this yearbook dedication.
(written with love by her daughter Mechelle Galyon)
Soft, cool hands caressing my skin when I felt bad or just for love. Stern brown eyes, turning my way when I had done something wrong. Always there for me! Praying by her bed at night on bended knees. Teaching me what is most important, being true to me. Words of wisdom, lessons in grace, raised in the church and full of God’s faith. My mother, a woman who has beaten the odds, my Rock of Gibraltar that I depend on.

A note from Natalie Garry
NAMI has been a real Godsend for Kent and I as we have dealt with personality and mental health issues in our family.
We took this training at Highland Park several years ago and found it invaluable.
There may be folk in our midst that are seeking a greater understanding of mental health in a constructive and professional way and I guarantee this is the best I have ever experienced to include my nursing training.
It will be offered at a church in South Dallas which is much more convenient.
Anyone wanting to ask questions about the training are welcome to call me at 214-274-3116; although I will not be involved in this training, I do support anyone who wants to attend and am glad to talk with anyone about the training.
Last Week we played Apples to Apples and talked about the Pharisee and Tax Collector during our Bible discussion time on Wednesday. On Sunday night we made prayer bowls (see photos of a few of them) and played Charades.
