Guest Preacher on Sunday, August 13

Dr. Dale Hunt

Dr. Dale Hunt will be our guest preacher on Sunday as Pastor Frank and others will be traveling to Panama on a mission trip.

Born and reared in North East Texas near Mt Pleasant, Dale entered the ministry in 1962. He earned a BA Degree from Southwestern University in Georgetown 1966, received a Master of Theology from SMU in 1969 and a Doctor of Ministry from SMU 1989. Dale has served churches in Red Oak, Alvarado, Weatherford, Ft Worth Handley & University Methodist. He was the pastor at First Duncanville from 1985-1991 and retired from the Dallas Denton District in 1997. He has been serving as a part-time staff member at First United Methodist of Dallas for the past 9 years.

Looking forward to seeing and hearing former pastor Dr. Dale Hunt this Sunday, August 13.

New Interim Music Director

Rev. Steve Sobczak

Rev. Steve Sobczak returns to FUMCD as interim Director of Music. Steve was part of the staff in Duncanville from 2003 to 2010. Since that time, he has served as Associate Pastor of FUMC of Granbury, TX, where he also directed the Granbury Civic Chorus. Steve’s educational background includes Bachelor and Master of Music Education degrees from Samford University in Birmingham, AL; Master of Music from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth; and Foundational studies for ordained ministry at Perkins School of Theology in Dallas. Welcome back Steve.

PIP Days

The dates of PIP DAYS (Property Improvement Program) are September 29 – 30 and October 6 – 7. To refresh memories, this is a partnership between First United Methodist Church and the City of Duncanville to repair the exterior of Duncanville homes……homes in which the owners, because of life circumstances, cannot do the needed repairs. This is one of the outreach programs of our church.

There will be a volunteer sign up table in the Narthex August 20th, 27th and September 3rd. You can also sign up by emailing Betty Dunn at bettyadunn@aol.com.

All Youth Retreat

Our youth enjoyed a weekend of fellowship in Glen Rose at the Hogwarts School for Youth & Wizards on their annual All Youth Retreat, led by our Seniors, recent graduates and Headmaster Liz Krahulik. Lots of fun memories were made as they dived deeper into the life of “The Boy Who Lived.” Click here for more pictures from the All Youth Retreat.

Thank You

Thank You to the Cup and Saucer Sunday School Class who donated $500 to be spent on the Panama Mission Trip. The money will be used to purchase shoes for the children, bed linens, and bed netting for the families.

Community Gardens

Two beautiful gazebos are part of our Community Garden.

Picnic tables are there for you to sit and enjoy the beauty of the area. One of the gazebos was given anonymously in honor of Sharon Karger who was the instigator of the Community Garden and continues to be a hard worker and supporter of this mission and many other facets of FUMCD.
