Clothing Drive Benefiting One Man’s Treasure
Seeking new and gently used men’s clothing
April 17, 2016 in the church narthex
The mission of One Man’s Treasure is to empower men in the Dallas area recently released from prison by providing them with clothing and opportunities for networking. The mission is centered on the belief that if these men can obtain employment, they can change the direction of their lives to become a productive member of society.
Based on past years, it is estimated that they will serve 1200+ men in 2016.
PIP Days Are Fast Approaching
First United Methodist Church, Duncanville has entered into a partnership with the City of Duncanville. Members of the Mission Committee have been meeting with the Duncanville Neighborhood Vitality Committee setting up guidelines in order to be able to help them improve neighborhoods. We are calling this endeavor PIP DAYS (Property Improvement Program).
Our goal is to be known as a congregation who invests time, energy, love and compassion to those in our own community who are in need. The first PIP DAYS of 2016 will take place April 29th and 30th and if needed May 6th and 7th. We will be repairing the outside of a home at 534 Golden Meadows and cleaning up a yard and repairing a broken fence at 415 Longworth.
Funds to be used for this project come from 2015 Fall Festival! There will be Volunteer Sign Up opportunities in the Narthex of Aldersgate and in the Narthex of the sanctuary Sunday. You can help through prayer; working at the sights, furnishing lunch on the 30th, bringing water, tea, or snacks. By all means we want you to come by the work sights to see what your church is doing!
UMCOR Early Response Training Class
Dr. Frank Alegria and the Mission Committee are inviting interested members of our congregation to register for an UMCOR Early Response Training Class to be held at our church. The date of the class is April 23, 2016. The event will take place in Aldersgate Hall. Time is 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Lunch, snacks, tea, coffee, and water will be served.
Since the Christmas tornadoes, I think we all are conscience of the fact that it really can happen in our area! Being an Early Responder equips us to assist survivors of natural disasters.
Go to www.ntcmissionaloutreach.org You can read about the class and register at that site.
