Bible Verse of the Week
“Gracious words are like honey, sweet to the soul and healthy to the body.” – Proverbs 16:24
Out of the Mouth of Babes
Our precious great granddaughter, Kaleiyah, was with us for a week recently during her Spring Break. She kept us quite busy. But on the first Saturday evening she was with us we told her that she would have to entertain herself for a while because her Oma and I would be busy at the church. She asked what we would be doing at the church so we explained that we needed to help set-up the Aldersgate fellowship building for a Stewardship Celebration luncheon. The luncheon, we told her, was to be served after worship the next day. Then she asked if others would be there and whether she could come too and help. She explained that she would like to see and visit with some of the nice people of our church. This, of course, delighted us.
Kaleiyah was a big help that evening working with her Oma, myself and members of our Sunday school class, the Progressors. Several had volunteered to be there with us.
Afterward, in the car with me returning home, Kaleiyah asked, “Opa, tell me what you think… does the Holy Ghost haunt every church building? You have several of them at your church.”
“No honey,” I answered, “I don’t believe the Holy Ghost haunts buildings. I believe the Holy Ghost haunts hearts.”
“Whose hearts does he choose to haunt, Opa?”
“All those who open their hearts to Him,” I said.
“Golly, there must be lots of people with haunted hearts at your church. A lot of ‘em came to help us tonight.”
“And he said: ‘Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.’”
~ Matthew 18:3

Friday, April 26th marks the first day of Spring PIP DAYS. (For those unfamiliar with this acronym…it stands for Property Improvement Program). April 26th, April 27th and May 3rd and 4th, 102 volunteers from the community (48 of them being from FUMCD) will work at 5 properties in Duncanville. Since 2016 volunteers have repaired and improved the homes and yards of 22 Duncanville residents. They have given new hope and pride to the homeowners.
This spring we will work at 5 homes…..repairing and building fences, cleaning up yards, cutting down trees and shrubs, replacing rotted wood, scraping and painting houses, tearing out a rotted deck and a dried up, collapsed, above the ground swimming pool and filling in low places in yards with dirt. We do this for homeowners who for reasons beyond their control cannot take care of these issues. Five more homeowners in Duncanville will understand that someone cares!
Volunteers are from:
First United Methodist Church Duncanville, Trinity United Methodist, First Christian Church, Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Grace Place Church of Christ, Employees of the City of Duncanville, Students from University of Texas at Arlington.
All volunteers covet your prayers for safety, success and the realization that all is to the Glory of God
