On God’s Side: What Religion Forgets and Politics Hasn’t Learned about Serving the Common Good by Jim Wallis (261.8 Wal)
The author shows how to reclaim Jesus’s vision of the common good which impacts not only politics but personal lives and the world. One reviewer states that Wallis puts together mature Christianity with mature politics without compromising either. This book includes a list of
ten personal decisions for the common good.
Dr. Josh Fitzpatrick along with Rev. Marie Mitchell, Rev. Alex Williams and Dr. Frank Alegria were at ACCESS Sunday evening where Josh was the guest preacher.
This Sunday evening, April 24, there will be three representatives from the Daughters of Abraham — a Jewish woman, a Muslim woman and a Christian woman. They will lead a discussion and respond to our questions, and it is our hope you will join us as we all learn more about these different faiths and seek to live in peace with one another.
On Sunday, May 15, Rev. Marie Mitchell will be our guest speaker.
Children’s events are going on at the same time as ACCESS so everyone will have something wonderful to do on Sunday evenings.
Chili Cook-Off & Folk Music Concert
AND THE WINNER IS . . . . TODD NICKERSON.
Fourteen chili cookers competed in the Chili Cook Off sponsored by the Youth in Aldersgate on Saturday evening. Tickets were purchased and used to vote on your favorite chili. Silent auction items were bid on—one being the opportunity to put a pie in Pastor Frank’s face. For $200 Brea Knight won the honors; however, Liz Ogle, Director of Youth, surprised Frank with a second pie to the face. The pie eating contest was really fun to watch. Children through youth ate pies with their hands behind their backs.

The 2015-2016 Concert Series with emphasis on folk music occurred following the chili cook off on Saturday night. The Alleluia Ringers, Alleluia Singers, Jerry Bair, Brea Knight and Marissa Ladatto, the gospel ensemble, Back Porch Band, and Brandon Ferrar and Lauren Wieland rang, sang, strummed and entertained those in attendance.
The next concert to be held will be Saturday, May 14, at 7 pm in Aldersgate called Esther. It is based on the Old Testament story and will be performed by our kids and youth. Don’t miss this opportunity of an evening of entertainment.

Church Directory Time
That’s right, many have asked and now the time is here!
This will be a secure, password protected online directory
but there will be a printed version available for a small fee.
If you haven’t had your picture taken for the church directory, call the church office to schedule your appointment like Bruce and Susan and Cubba & Denyce did.
We have 1 more opportunity this Sunday, April 24 from 9 to 1 in the gym (at your expense) or you can submit your own appropriate picture to Angie Bilbrey by emailing a copy or bring a picture and we will scan it in the office. email@example.com or 972.298.6121
Clothing Drive benefiting One Man’s Treasure
Seeking new and gently used men’s clothing
April 17, 2016
Aldersgate Narthex & Sanctuary Narthex
The mission of One Man’s Treasure is to empower men in the Dallas area recently released from prison by providing them with clothing and opportunities for networking. The mission is centered on the belief that if these men can obtain employment, they can change the direction of their lives to become a productive member of society. Based on past years, it is estimated that they will serve 1200+ men in 2016.
Project PIP Days 2016
Preparation for “Project PIP DAYS 2016” is well underway! The dates for this big event are April 29th and 30th and May 6th and 7th.
We will be working at two sites. At the address of 534 Golden Meadow we will be replacing rotted wood, broken windows, broken doors, scraping and painting. This home is owned by a widow who is raising grandchildren. At the address of 415 Longworth our job is to remove a fallen tree from the back yard and repair the fence that was broken down when the tree fell. Also, we will be mowing and cleaning up the yard. The owner of this home is disabled.
Volunteer sign up sheets for working or for furnishing sandwiches, chips, cookies, tea or bottled water will be in the Aldersgate Narthex and the sanctuary narthex next Sunday.
We covet your prayers for the volunteers and encourage you to come by the work sites and see what your church is doing!
Phil Mehl is the construction manager for the Project PIP Days 2016.
