Bible Verse of the Week
“He came so we may have life and have it to the full.'” – John 10:10
Passover Seder Meal
On Sunday approximately 80 people gathered for the Seder Meal in Aldersgate, hosted by Byron and Netta Rodenburg and the Progressors Sunday School Class. Aldersgate was beautifully decorated in a Spring display with tables showing a setting of a Passover Seder meal. Seder customs include telling the story, discussing the story, drinking four cups of wine (Grape Juice), eating matza, partaking of symbolic foods placed on the Passover Seder Plate, and reclining in celebration of freedom, culminating in Holy Communion.
Debbie Smith, Kathy Cook, Devra Carmical, Cathy Barkley, Cheryl Boyette and Sharon Karger performed a Jewish Allalue or Water Dance during Sunday night’s Seder Meal.
“His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’”
In this New Testament parable, the master praised the two servants who used their talents well in caring for his wealth. However, about the servant who foolishly hid the master’s gold fearing punishment for failure, he said, “…throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”
Would it have been likely for the two worthy servants to expect praise for a job well done? Perhaps. But it was their duty, after all, their duty to serve the master the best they knew how to. So, to be welcomed in to share in their master’s happiness—that would have been high praise. That’s the way it is for us too. God, our Master, expects us to live faithfully and loyally as stewards of the resources that He has entrusted with us: our time, talents, treasures and other things. And when we use them wisely and generously, He will praise us and welcome us in to share His happiness.
Have you ever made a meal and delivered it someone who needed support? Have you ever visited a person confined to their hospital bed or to home? Have you ever housed someone who needed a place to sleep? When you did these things, that was the work of the Holy Spirit of God in you. That was showing others His love. And, when you did it to the least of these…
God even gives us a feeling of well-being when we do something good for someone else. How awesome it is that He still shows us we have done well and that He invites us to share in His happiness now and forever.
Share God’s love with a neighbor today, and share in God’s blessing and happiness!
“Again, [the kingdom of heaven] will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his wealth to them.” Matthew 25:14-30.
