Good Folks, it Friday, October 18, 2019. This Saturday and Sunday is the Fall Festival Weekend, where the Missions Committee and so many volunteers help facilitate a huge garage sale, Methodist Marketplace (Aldersgate), plant sale, food court, bounce house, and much-much more. We could use your volunteer hours to help on some level. All for missions. On Sunday, immediately following morning worship, a BBQ meal with all the trimmings, will be served. Then, drum roll… a live auction of items that have been handmade, donated from individuals and groups, to be auctioned…all for missions. You are encouraged to attend and participate. Thanks to all who have put in many hours to prepare for this weekend.
This Sunday, 5PM, in our church sanctuary, we will be hosting a Metro District Charge Conference, with 17 United Methodist Churches in attendance, our District Superintendent-Reverend Debra Hobbs Mason and Bishop Michael McKee with special music from The Village UMC Praise Group. It will be a time for fellowship and a time to celebrate with other churches and colleagues in ministry. Please make every effort to attend.
Update on the Alexander Gym repair: The structural engineer report has been finalized, a scope of work has been sent to our general contractor, we are awaiting building permits to be issued and work will begin shortly thereafter. The estimated total cost of this repair is just short of $300,000. Our Board of Trustees have been informed all along of the status of this project; however, we are almost there. We will NOT have any out-of-pocket expenses from the church’s part. Read carefully: No out-of-pocket expenses. Some folks have been concerned about this, but I needed to inform you as to where we are at this moment.
Forgive me for using this space to share some administrative business of the church.
This past Wednesday was “Boss’ Day” and the staff of the church took me to lunch, Chinese-my favorite. Bridget Maloney, in her creative way, gave me a piñata, stuffed not with candy but something better. It was filled with pieces of paper with sayings of inspiration, scripture and “words to live by.” She said that there are 365 of these. I will be sharing some, little-by-little. Enjoy.
From the Piñata:
- It’s not whether you get knocked down; it’s whether you get up. Vince Lombardi
- Your purpose in life is to find your purpose and give your whole heart and soul to it. Buddha
- If people knew how hard I worked to achieve my mastery, it wouldn’t seem so wonderful after all. Michelangelo
- Dishonest money dwindles away, but whoever gathers money little by little makes it grow. Proverbs 13:11
