Good Folks, it is the last Friday in November 2018. December is but a few hours away and so many activities are scheduled, worship services planned and an array of family activities from a stay-cation to European. Like always, enjoy. Make memories. Celebrate responsibly.
In last week’s Frankly Speaking, I noted some information about Advent. No two churches alike celebrate Advent as an anticipation of the birth and return of Christ. No two churches alike will sing the Christmas Carols that we have been accustomed to. No two churches alike decorate their sanctuaries with poinsettias, garland and Nativity scenes. Every church has traditions as each household does.
I enjoy the lighting of the Advent Candles each year. There are five to be lit:
- First Sunday in Advent: Hope
- Second Sunday: Joy
- Third Sunday: Peace
- Fourth Sunday: Love
- Christmas Eve: Christ Candle
My first recollection of Christmas was at home when Mom would have a changing color wheel lighting the Aluminum Christmas tree. Does anyone remember having one of those? Mom decorated the tree with beautiful ornaments of different colors. Wrapped gifts were laid under the tree until Christmas morning. More memories forthcoming.
Send me a memory or two of your Christmas past.
May God, who richly blesses, continue to undergird you with his loving arms. His grace to forgive you of sin. And to give you the Hope to live hopefully…
Blessings from Duncanville,
