Good Folks, it is Friday, November 3, 2017. No count downs to Thanksgiving or Christmas.
This Sunday names we are familiar and unfamiliar with will be read:
- Jessie Airhart
- Gladys Bell
- Reta Carver
- Victoria Davis
- Sharon Fawks
- Ruth Houser
- Robert Lankford
- Jim Luker
- Marvin Powers
- Dick Rittenberry
- Taylor Tanner
- Billie Ross
All of these folks are now in the Church Triumphant. We are the church because of those that have come before us. These folks, many whose Celebration of Life Service I was honored to participate in, constantly reminded me that a life is celebrated, a life was mourned and a faith proclaimed.
Some lived a long life while others not-as-long. All left a legacy: each of us.
This All Saint’s Sunday these names will be read, a bell sounded, tears shed and a smile of a happy moment remembered. We give thanks to God for these who have “fought the good fight, finished the race, kept the faith.” (2Timonthy 4:7)
Every Sunday we gather to hear a word from God for the people of God. It will also be a time to remember that the Table has been set to break bread and drink from the cup that Christ prepared for his disciples and for us. All are invited. Invite others.
The Apostles’ Creed ends with these lines of faith: I believe in… “the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting. Amen.” It is these lines we say, we believe and live because of the promise Jesus Christ promises in scripture.
Hold on to hope. Have faith and be unwavering on what we must do to remain faithful. Christ had no “Plan B” to make disciples, spread the gospel, love one another, forgive each other and let the world know of the grace of God for all. We are it. Christ is counting on us, the Church.
Have a great and blessed day. See you Sunday in church.
Blessings from Duncanville,
