Good Folks, it is Friday, November 29, 2019. Thanksgiving Day is history. Leftovers on the menu for a few days. Lights to hang outside. Tree to decorate. Presents to buy. All of the above or none of the above. Let me share with you what I want for Christmas:
Someone to wash dishes for me during the after-school program, every Wednesday from 3:15 PM – 4:45 PM. Yes, a human dishwasher. Salary: a plate of what the kids eat, which could be pizza, chicken nuggets, slider sandwich, coupled with Jell-O, cake, or ice cream. Let me tell you why I want this for Christmas.
I want to introduce some simple crafts with the kids. Now, I am not a creative-craft person. So, some of these projects I want to do are simple and will make memories for these kids to take home for Christmas, and after the New Year. Plus, this just might bring other folks to volunteer in the program. I can always use the help on crafts.
This coming Sunday, I will be preaching from Matthew 24:36-24, The Necessity of Watchfulness.
This Sunday will also be the first Sunday of the month where the Sacrament of Holy Communion is served. All are welcome to this Table of Grace.
Lest I forget, there will be an Angel Tree in our Narthex with many envelopes with the description of children to support during this Christmas season. I am appealing to my readership:Send me somemoney. Make checks payable to FUMCD, Memo: Angel Tree. These funds will go towards the purchase of gifts for a child or two or three.
Everyone wants something for Christmas. My brother Charlie wanted “a pito.” (Whistle) Another child might want their two front teeth. Another a bicycle. Or a baby brother or sister. Maybe a cure for cancer. We should never forget the reason for the season: Christ.
Blessings from Duncanville,
Pastor Frank (firstname.lastname@example.org)
