Good Folks, it is Good Friday, March 30, 2018. We celebrated Maundy Thursday last night, the Seven (7) Words of Christ from the Cross this evening at 7PM, with pancake breakfast and children’s activities beginning tomorrow morning at 8AM in Aldersgate. The weather should be beautiful.
Easter Sunday begins at 7AM with a sunrise service on the Main Street parking lot in front of Harmony Hall and the 10:30A.M. Service in our sanctuary. I will encourage the preacher not to be “long-winded.” Steve Sobczak has powerful music planned with the singing of the Hallelujah Chorus from folks in our pews who have sung this piece in years past to join the choir in the choir loft. Music will be provided.
Recently Methodist Charlton Hospital and our own Health & Welfare Committee sponsored a “Hands Only CPR” training event. When this event gets scheduled again, you will not want to miss the opportunity. Great trainers and great life-saving skills showed. Many took this opportunity. Read carefully:
- CALL 9-1-1
- Keep the speaker phone ON
- Check for a pulse
- GET THE AED, if available; (Alternate External Defibrillator)
- START CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation)
The intent of CPR is to restart the heart that has stopped or gone into “AFib” (atrial fibrillation).
Bridging to Good Friday crucifixion and Easter Sunday resurrection, I know that Jesus died on the cross. Dead. Even a soldier’s spear pierced his side to make sure he was dead. (John 14:39) You know the story: buried in a borrowed tomb; soldiers guarded the tomb; angels appeared; Christ arose from the dead. All four gospels tell the story. (Matthew 28:1ff; Mark 16:1ff; Luke 24:1ff; John 20:1ff)
Good Friday is about God’s Love.
Easter Sunday is about God’s Power.
Christ said that I have come so that you would have life greater than you can imagine.
Because of the resurrection we are offered hope and life, greater than we can imagine.
Whatever it takes for our heart to beat in sync with God’s, just do it.
Blessings from Duncanville,
