Good Folks, it is Friday, March 11, 2016. Only 16 days to Easter and 63 days until Mother’s Day. Just giving you a heads up on these important dates.
Spring Break week begins as school lets out this afternoon for several area school districts. There will be many folks traveling next week as there were many this week enjoying a respite from their school assignments.
Holy Week is around the corner that launches with the church in remembering Jesus entering Jerusalem. Jesus set his face to a particular direction towards Jerusalem, Luke 9. Interesting enough, Luke has some 14 chapters before Jesus is found before Pilate for trial (chapter 23).
When you read and re-read Luke, there is an urgency of constant teaching, mission, purpose, kingdom of God and a host of miracle events of personal transformational proportions. Urgency drives us to a desired state in our lives. Luke wants us to be informed and aware, in urgency, about our relationship with God through Christ.
Jesus set his face to Jerusalem. He knew that the cross was before him and would ultimately take his human life.
Holy Week tells a great story of Jesus’ last five days of life. From the palm branches brought in to the sanctuary on Sunday to the stripping of the sanctuary on Holy Thursday to the last seven words of Christ from the cross, with Jesus’ last word, “Father, into your hands I commend my spirit.” (23:46a)
Good Friday tells us about God’s love. Easter tells us about God’s power. Wow!
We continue our sermon series on the gospel of Luke, chapters 15-17. Invite and welcome…
In conclusion, two things: Concert series tomorrow,Saturday, 7PM, Jazz Trio; and congratulations to the Duncanville High School Women’s basketball team, 6A state champions, with an undefeated season (39-0). We are proud of you Pantherettes.
Blessings from Duncanville, Pastor Frank
