Good Folks, it is Friday, July 14, 2017. Today is also National Mac & Cheese Day. Believe me, it is the least of the craziest of themes on this day.
In looking for Maya Angelou’s autograph last week, I stumbled on a poem written by a famous poet—Anonymous. It is about the Church. Enjoy.
The Church is not like a blanket:
one piece of unbroken cloth,
the same color,
the same texture,
the same size.
The Church is more like a quilt:
All woven and held together by a common thread.
In most seminaries, there is a class entitled, “Systematic Theology.” Methodically, you go through the doctrines (teachings) of the Church. One of the doctrines is “The Doctrine of the Church.” How do we understand who we are, what is our purpose, why are we here and can we make a difference.
I remember trying to give bone, sinew, muscle and skin to this topic. I said something like, “The Church is the hands and feet and voice of God, for the sharing of the Word of God for the hope of the world.”
Folks, we are “woven and held together by a common thread.” The common thread for me is Jesus, the Christ, the greatest hope for the world.
Healthy Church Initiative (HCI) will be having a training session for Phase II on Thursday, August 24, 2017, 6:00P.M. – 8:00P.M., Aldersgate Hall. More information forthcoming. Mark your calendars and SAVE THE DATE.
