Good Morning Friends. It is Friday, August 23, 2019. Tomorrow, the church will celebrate Gary Blevins life at 10:00 a.m. in the church sanctuary. We pray for Barbara, his beloved, and the family and friends gathered as we remember, share stories, cry and know that God is always with us. Death never has the last word. God does. Amen.
I came across this picture that is a painful reminder that we are never to stop trying.
“I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.” Thomas Edison
I am sure that there are events in our lives where we just stop trying. Maybe work, school, family, children, in-laws, relationships, self-improvement and the list is endless. The church is no different. Too often we hear in the hallways and groups the infamous words, “We have never done it this way.”
I have a piece of paper on my bulletin board with these words, “The world hates change, yet it is the only thing that has brought progress.” Charles Kettering
I do not subscribe to change for the sake of change but for a new way of doing something to achieve the same goal. Our mission of the church has never changed: Making disciples of Jesus Christ. How we do this and the differing ways has changed. I argued with a church member about the use of multimedia in the sanctuary. Her argument, Why? It distracts. We should pay closer attention. She had valid points. My response, Jesus used parables to teach. We use projectors. Now, social media in addition. What the next level of learning of methods to teach will be for ourselves and the generation to follow, will even be more radical and transformational.
As long as we do not lose sight of the “Main Thing.”
I pray blessings upon you and your family this day. Stay safe. Love as God has loved you. Forgive one another. Remain faithful to your vows.
Blessings from Duncanville,

Who can share with me the words of William Carey that I have shared for years?
