Good Folks, it is Friday, April 6, 2018, the first Friday after Easter. May 20 is the Day of Pentecost.
At the end of Easter Sunday service a young lady by the name of Karina convinced her dad to walk her to the front of the sanctuary where I was standing, and boldly proclaim a profession of faith in God through Christ. I believe that God moves hearts and hands and souls. I also believe that we have free will to say yes to God, right now God, or even say … “not now.” I said to Karina with the congregation hearing, “God will do great things through you. God has a plan for your life. You will not be alone, these folks around you will help you along this journey.”
For the next four Sundays, I will be preaching a sermon series entitled—Arise: Claiming the Resurrection as Your Own. Resurrection happens when there has been a “death” in our lives that has to stay dead. Then and only then can God bring new life with new possibilities. This Sunday, my desire is to share “What Does the Resurrection Mean to You and Me?” The scripture text of John 11:25-27 will be used for the next four Sundays.
For such a young lady as Karina to grab her dad’s hand and say, let’s go to the front” takes confidence and calmness found in the Spirit of God. New life happens at any age, in any circumstance and for any reason God so chooses.
Folks, I invite you to invite others this Sunday to be part of what God is doing through the church, because of the Resurrection. Arise. Claim the Resurrection as Your Own. See where God will also lead you. And just maybe, Karina will not be the only to profess a faith with a desire to be used by God for the people of God. Praise God.
