Good Folks, it is Friday, April 27, 2018. Our spring 2018 PIP Days begins today. There is time to participate. Just be at the church parking lot by 8:00AM ready to bless and be blessed. As of Sunday after church, Betty Dunn informed me that we now have 100+ volunteers from churches and the City of Duncanville employees forming groups to be assigned tasks and homes for these next two Friday/Saturday vents. Soli Deo Gloria (To God Alone Glory). Wow!
Tomorrow morning at 11:00AM, a Celebration of Life service for Earle L. Jones, Jr. will be in our sanctuary. It will be a time to celebrate and life, mourn a loss to his family, friends and a community he loved, and to proclaim a faith that as Christians be faithfully and boldly profess. Earle leaves a legacy of commitment and passion and generosity to all who crossed his path in life. He will now be holding hands with his beloved Barbara in the heavens.
Sunday: Remember that we are having a Congregational Covered Dish Meal, sponsored by the Stewardship Committee. Smoked Brisket will be part of the meat menu; however, you are welcomed to bring side dishes, desserts (pink stuff-my favorite) and your joyful-smiley face. Right after church. This will be fun.
Last Tuesday, the program for the Duncanville Rotary was the Duncanville Fire Department, with Chief Sam Rhode giving us a first-hand, hands on experience of their newest addition to their fleet of firetrucks. The picture does not tell the awesome sight we experienced. The ladder extends to 107 feet. This was especially ordered for our community, to service hotels, residents and giving the Fire Department an arsenal to combat fires and rescue folk. The decision to invest in this fire truck adds to the community’s present and future needs. No different when our church decided to invest in the Healthy Church Initiative (HCI).
Teams are being formed for Hospitality, Leadership, Vision and Connections. Each team requires different elements of planning and implementation. The first group for Hospitality met and read the report from the Mystery Guests. Interesting report of 142 pages.
- Leadership development will help our church train and mentor church members on seeking leaders for the future needs of the church.
- Vision will work on developing a new mission statement that helps us say who we are and what should guide our actions in all areas of the church.
- Connections will help the church be in a greater partnership with the community in creative ways that will enhance what we are currently doing, and seeks new ways to reach people for Jesus Christ.
We must to reach higher.
We must invest our resources: Prayers, Presence, Gifts, Service and Witness.
We have an opportunity to make a difference. Together, this is possible. Together.
Blessings from Duncanville
