Last week I had braces put on my top set of teeth. I had the full two-year braces experience when I was a child, and like many children, I did not take the whole, “You need to wear your retainer” thing seriously. Accordingly, some of my teeth on the top started moving, and over a decade or two, I am now having to revisit this experience.
While I do not really mind the soreness that accompanies these braces, I do mind the challenge that eating has become. You just never really appreciate how easy it is to chew until you have sharp metal digging into your cheeks with each bite.
Being that it is resolution time, I suppose that “Take better care of my teeth” would obviously be one of mine. But I think that another one is to not take so many things for granted. The ease of brace-free chewing is something I now long for, and yet I know it will return in a few months. With a new baby on the way, I suppose that I should start appreciating the ability to sleep for 8 straight hours while it lasts.
2017 has arrived, and I hope that I can be more mindful to thank God for the presence of grace in my life. I hope you will be filled with the grace of God now and forever. And don’t forget to be thankful for the little things.
Happy New Year my friends,
