I’ve been finishing up a book by Sarah Bessey this week, and yesterday I came across a passage about the Kingdom of God that captivated my soul. I hope it similarly connects with you:
“We practice the Kingdom of God like that old piano, exercising beauty and freedom and joy, fitting our footsteps into the footsteps of our Jesus. This is the way: walk in it.
I think the Kingdom is in every good and perfect moment in our lives, because these moments serve as a taste, just a small taste, of what God truly intends for us. It’s in our bonfire for dancing and laughter. It’s friends who show up when it matters. It’s making your tinies laugh. It’s sleeping babies curled into their mother’s breast and the heft of holding another soul. It’s wisdom and beauty, peace, love and joy, late-afternoon sun and handmade quilts. It’s the renewal of morning.
…It’s trust and laughter and holy risk taking; it’s vocationand work and worship. It’s sharing leadership and responsibility. It’s turning away from the language of hierarchy and power to the posture of servanthood. It’s affirming all the seasons and callings of each other’s lives. It’s speaking out and working and advocating on behalf of our oppressed brothers and sisters around the world.
His is a Kingdom of inversions, of the least being the greatest. In this Kingdom, both the child and the aged are loved and respected. It’s a gorgeous, crazy family that listens and talks too loud and loves you all the harder in your weakest moment. It’s art and co-creation; it’s music and theology in every daily rhythm of our lives. It’s giving our money away, because there is a bigger treasure in the giving than in the hoarding. It’s provision; it’s enough. It’s a welcome. You–yes, you–are welcome here. We’ve been waiting for you.” From Jesus Feminist by Sarah Bessey.
This portrait of God’s Kingdom gives me so much hope and reminds me that we have an amazing God. I’m so glad to be a part of this gorgeous, crazy family with you. I hope you know that you are welcome here in this beautiful community of God.
Have a wonderful week my friends,
