This past weekend was a whirlwind of emotions and events. We had our Modern Worship Service in Aldersgate for the first time, and it was wonderful! We also had the launch of ACCESS Worship on Sunday evening and it was absolutely fabulous. We have been working on this service for about a year now, and to see it all come together the way that it did was really a great moment that I am not likely to forget anytime soon.
As many of you know, when you work on something this large for this long, when it finally arrives every little thing feels like life and death. You hang on every moment, hoping nothing goes wrong, and hoping that the months of planning and hard work have paid off. It all felt like life and death, and when it went well, it gave me a breath of fresh air and gave me life.
And then I heard yesterday morning that Nancy DeShazo passed away. Nancy was my friend, as I know she was for many of you too. I’m pretty sure that she’s been a member of our church for longer than I’ve been alive. I met Nancy a little less than 2 years ago, and I have been inspired by her ever since. She fought against this horrible disease with so much courage and grace. Her strength and her wonderful spirit were infections to all around her.
I had a weekend of life followed swiftly by death. Too often life seems to work like that. I miss Nancy, but I am glad that she is no longer in pain. I’m glad that she has joined that great cloud of witnesses who watch over us all.
You’re invited to join us as we celebrate her lifetomorrow at 11am in our Sanctuary. I will miss my friend, but her strength and her faith made me a better person, and for that I am very thankful.
Have a wonderful week my friends,
